Weather Emergencies

Extreme heat. Frigid cold. Looming hurricanes.

No current weather emergencies

Many ‘cooling’ locations remain open regardless

Updated 10/19/26: Forecasters expect a maximum heat index in the upper 70s to low 80s for Central Florida this week — considerably below the threshold needed to trigger free bus transportation and the opening of additional cooling spaces for people experiencing homelessness. However, public libraries and community centers that serve as designated cooling centers remain open to all during regular business hours.

The heat index is a measure of the air temperature plus humidity — typically referred to as the “feels like” temperature.
