Our Work

The Commission has developed and undertaken a series of homeless housing and services programs designed to meet the individualized needs of homeless people across the region. These programs include street outreach, emergency shelters, transitional housing, permanent supportive housing, wrap around services, mainstream supports, employment and health care services, and housing services for homeless Veterans.

The Initiatives

These initiatives aim to rapidly rehouse homeless individuals and families, including those fleeing domestic violence and youth, while minimizing trauma and dislocation. They also promote the effective use of mainstream programs and optimize self-sufficiency for homeless persons.

Coordinated Entry System

Coordinated Entry System (CES) streamlines the process of finding housing for those individuals, families, and youth who are homeless with the goal of housing the most vulnerable people first.

Our region’s CES  is structured to comply with HUD requirements including multiple points of access and respect for participant’s privacy.

Homeless Management Information System (HMIS)

HMIS is an internet-based database that is used by homeless service organizations across Central Florida to record and store client-level information about the numbers, characteristics and needs of homeless persons and those at risk of homelessness. HMIS is guided by data standards created by HUD.

Housing Locator Services

The only true solution to homelessness is permanent housing. Through the collaborative efforts of our Housing Operations team (learn more about them at www.hsncfl.org), case managers, landlords, property managers and realtors, we are able to identify available units for families, chronically homeless individuals, survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking, unaccompanied youth and veterans.

What We Do

Our activities include operating coordinated intake and assessment systems via Homeless Management Information Systems (HMIS), providing housing solutions such as permanent supportive housing and rapid re-housing, and securing federal funding to support these programs. They also focus on comprehensive outreach, homelessness prevention, data collection, and performance measurement to tailor services effectively and ensure individuals achieve long-term housing stability and self-sufficiency.

Iniatiaives

Data & Research

We work alongside organizations in Central Florida to provide a system of care for individuals, families and youth experiencing homelessness in the tri-county area.

We share the stories of individuals, youth, and families struggling with homelessness and educate our community through simulations and new findings.

Past Activities

Sound data and facts drive the work we do. We support the development and dissemination of the latest findings on the state of homelessness in Central Florida.

Advocate

We support initiatives within our community and government in order to create effective change for our most vulnerable neighbors here in Central Florida.

How We Do It

Our approach is to standardize assessment, prioritization, and referrals to ensure efficient connection of individuals and families with appropriate resources. The process involves fostering a strong community, committee management and participation, and providing organizations with funding opportunities, all while maintaining HUD standards.

Funding Opportunities

We are committed to breaking the cycle of homelessness in Central Florida – making homelessness for our neighbors rare, brief and a one-time event.

Committees

The Commission cannot exist without the coordinated efforts of our faith-based communities, other nonprofits, local businesses and our government agencies.

Standards & Policies

CFCH serves as HUD’s designated Continuum of Care for the Central Florida region (i.e. HUD recognizes the Commission as CoC FL-507).

COPE Events

COPE, or the Cost of Poverty Experience, is designed to help participants begin to understand what it is like to live as a typical low-income family in the United States. It is based on real stories and created alongside those who have lived with these daily struggles. We invite you to watch this short video that will provide more insight about COPE.
